A Grand Cayman Island SunsetThe Jewish community on the Grand Cayman Islands was only founded in the last few decades by Harvey DeSouza and Ruth Silvera.  When Rebbetzin Rachel visited in 2001, she had no Jewish encounters.  Up until recently, there were very few Jews present, but the community has grown dramatically in the past couple of years.

There is one synagogue, located on Cayman Brac.  However, members of the community are located on all three Cayman Islands.  They come together once per month to celebrate Shabbat together and celebrate Jewish holidays together.  There are Friday night services every week and the community has its own sefer Torah.  Although there is presently no full-time rabbi, they do bring one in for major holidays.

There are no strictly kosher stores, although there are a large number of kosher tourists who pass through Grand Cayman.  Therefore, certain hotels provide kosher meals, as long as the head chef is informed.  Please contact these hotels prior to your journey to confirm that they still offer this service.
