Because of the joy one has upon seeing or eating new seasonal fruit, The Rabbis instituted that the blessing of shehechiyanu should be recited when this occurs. Although some authorities hold that one should recite the blessing when seeing the new fruit, the custom is that one recites it when eating the new fruit for the first time in the season.
Fruit for me is very important because it makes up most of my diet. I also enjoy discovering new fruits all over the world and have eaten many which I have no name for. Traveling and eating is a big thing for most travelers and being Kosher the only travel food I can really appreciate is fruit.
