Don’t be misled by all of my recent postings from Sydney… Rabbi Ben and I are still traveling. I recently went to Canberra, which few people realize is the capital of Australia. And I will leave you all to take wild guesses as to where Rabbi Ben might be right now… he is off traveling again and I hope he will come back with some exciting stories!
In the meantime, I’m staying in Sydney for a little while. It’s such a beautiful place. I’m lucky enough to have a cousin who lives here and it’s so nice to have family around. Sydney is an interesting city because even though it is enormous, it has wild areas (called “bush”) interspersed throughout, including in the neighborhood where my cousin lives. It’s like an oasis.
In fact, the bush is so close by that yesterday I even saw a wild Australian bush turkey! They are rarely seen in suburban areas, but because the bush is so pervasive, the funny little bush turkey simply had to walk out of the woods and there he was on the side of the street. He looked totally different from the turkeys we have back home in the US. Check him out! Isn’t he handsome!
I wonder if this turkey would be considered kosher…
