There are not many Jews living in Tanzania. In Dar es Salaam in the late 1960’s and early 1970’s Jews came together for the High Holydays. They were a small community and rarely got a minyan. The AJC co-sponsored for two Lubavitch students to visit Dar es Salaam. The young rabbinical students organized what was the first Friday night service in 30 years to be held in the city.

I went to Tanzania as part of the Everest Peace Project to climb mount Kilimanjaro. I represented the Jewish faith in the multi faith climb. It was an awesome experience spending eight days climbing and camping with such a great group of people who were also very understanding to my religious needs to keep Shabbat and kosher.
